Britain went DiamondJubilee crazy!

Diamond Jubilee fever has finally arrived as celebrations kicked off around the UK on the 2^nd June,  the first day of a four-day Bank Holiday weekend of festivities. This four-day party celebrated Queen Elizabeth II 60 glorious years as Queen.

2nd June - Queen attends Epsom Derby

3rd June - The Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant

 4th June - The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert

5th June - St Paul´s Service and Carriage Procession

THE OLYMPICS ARE CLOSER!


The flame that will burn throughout the 2012 London Olympics was lit in an elaborate ceremony in Olympia, Greece, on 10th May.

A torch lit from the flame is now on the first leg of its two-week relay around Greece.

Some 490 torch bearers will carry the flame the length and breadth of Greece, before it is transferred by airplane to the United Kingdom on May 18.

It will then go on a 70-day journey around the UK, borne by 8,000 volunteers. It is due to reach the Olympic Stadium in London on July 27, ready for the opening ceremony.

Queen Elizabeth celebrates 60 years on throne      

In 1952 the woman,  known today as Queen Elizabeth II,  was just Elizabeth, a 25-year-old member of England’s royal family visiting a remote village in Kenya.

When word came on Feb. 6 of that year that her father, George VI, had died, Elizabeth cut her trip short and flew home to London. She was greeted at the airport by her country’s then-Prime Minister Winston Churchill and she was crowned Queen Elizabeth II.

Today, 60 years later, the 85-year-old Queen celebrates her Diamond Jubilee anniversary. The anniversary makes Queen Elizabeth, already Britain’s oldest serving monarch, the country’s longest-serving monarch after Queen Victoria, who reigned for more than 63 years.

The entire country is celebrating and there will be celebrations throughout the year . The main event, the 2012 Diamond Jubilee weekend, will be held in June and feature a star-studded concert and boat pageant on the Thames river with a 1,000-strong flotilla.
